⟴Goal Setting
⟶What are goals?
Goals are the ends toward which we direct our effort. In other words, goals are things we want to achieve, things we aim for as we pursue a certain course of action. Goals are important in college because they help motivate students to do their work, attend classes, and study for exams. Even though they already may have set some goals for the semester, chances are they thought little about whether those goals were realistic. You can improve your academic performance in college by learning to set goals that motivate you to do well and that increase your chance for success.
Characteristic of goals
⤹Specific: The more specific your goals are, the more motivated you’ll be to achieve them. If you formulate vague or unclear goals, you’ll be less likely to accomplish them. You end up not achieve your goal.
⤹Measureable: A goal is measurable if you can determine whether you reached it. It would be difficult to determine whether you achieved your goal if you just wanted to “do well in a course.”
⤹Achievable: Set your goal high but not impossible. This will make you more motivated and high spirit to achieve it. The higher the challenge of your goal encourage you to achieve that goal and feel the joy of success. Even though you fail, you will not hit the rock bottom because ‘shoot for the moon, if you fall, you land on a star’.
⤹Realistic: Think about whether your goals are attainable. To set realistic goals, you must carefully evaluate your chances of achieving each goal. Using the five step approach tosetting can help you make this decision.
⤹Time based: Goals need to have a limited time frame. You just learned that you need to set a specific time to start a study goal. You need to set a specific time to complete your goals, too. Setting deadlines to complete your study goals seems rather obvious.
⤹Selfchosen: You need to determine or choose your own goals; you need to decide what you want to accomplish. If you set your own goals, you will be more motivated to achieve them.

Period of goal
→͢͢Most students have longterm goals in mind when they enter college. Even if you don’t know exactly what major you want to pursue, you have probably thought about getting a degree and getting a job. That not make your goal clear and make your goal even hard to achieve. That is why goal need to have period of time to make sure you clear with your goal and motivated to achieve it.
